Data Sources

PilotCB combines official aviation data with selected supplemental sources while keeping source status and freshness visible.

FAA & official aviation data

PilotCB uses FAA data and other authoritative aviation sources.

NOAA / NWS / Aviation Weather Center

PilotCB uses authoritative NOAA, National Weather Service, and Aviation Weather Center products for supported METAR, TAF, and aviation-weather views.

Approved authority categories

Digital ATIS and other authority-provided operational information are used only where an approved, real source is available. Unavailable ATIS is not fabricated or replaced with another weather product.

FAA NAS

FAA NAS information contributes current operational system context to supported PilotCB views.

Supplemental

Selected supplemental information adds context where permitted and never replaces authoritative aviation sources.

Live ADS-B

Live ADS-B is used only for aircraft position and traffic context. It is not a weather source or a collision-avoidance system.

Selected third-party data

Supplemental sources add context where useful, without replacing authoritative aviation data.

METAR and TAF use NOAA/AWC first. When a current report is unavailable, weather may use data from MET Norway, licensed under CC BY 4.0 and NLOD 2.0. Reports retain their original weather content; presentation and report selection are adapted for PilotCB.

Supplemental traffic attribution

Aircraft traffic contains information from ADSB.lol, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Normalized aircraft data remains available under ODbL through the same geographic Traffic API used by this map.

Vessel observations are supplied through AISStream. Coverage and available vessel details vary. No commercial redistribution rights beyond the provider's terms are claimed.

Supplemental traffic is not an FAA operational surveillance product, is not approved for separation, and must not be used as traffic-avoidance guidance.

Source and freshness stay visible.

Unavailable information is not presented as current. PilotCB distinguishes stale and partial information where those states are supported.

Source information remains visible when it is operationally relevant.
